Heat pumps

Heat pumps are energy-efficient heating and cooling systems that use electricity to convert environmental energy (from the air, ground or water) into usable heating energy. They are a key component of the energy transition in the building sector.

The main types are air-to-water heat pumps (standard in new builds, easy to install), brine-to-water heat pumps / ground-source heat pumps (highest efficiency, with ground collectors or deep boreholes), water-to-water heat pumps for groundwater use, domestic hot water heat pumps for hot water production, and large-scale industrial heat pumps for commercial applications.

Leading manufacturers include Viessmann, Vaillant, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Stiebel Eltron, Bosch / Buderus, Wolf, Nibe, Panasonic and Weishaupt.

Heat pumps are used in new residential builds and renovations, in office buildings and hotels, on farms, in swimming pools, and in industrial process heat applications with heat recovery.
