Plant protection equipment

Plant protection equipment comprises agricultural machinery used to apply liquid or solid plant protection products (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides) and foliar fertilisers. Precise, low-drift application reduces labour costs and environmental impact.

The main types are mounted field sprayers (3-point hitch, 1,000–2,000 l, 12–30 m working width), trailed field sprayers (3,000–8,000 l for large areas), self-propelled field sprayers (large tanks, high ground clearance, GPS and section control), sprayers for fruit and vine cultivation (axial-fan sprayers) and drone-based application as a modern specialised application.

Common manufacturers include Amazone (UX, Pantera), Hardi, Lemken, Kverneland, Horsch (Leeb), Kuhn, John Deere (R Series), Dammann, Berthoud and Agrifac.

Plant protection equipment is used on arable farms (cereals, maize, rapeseed, sugar beet), in fruit and viticulture, in vegetable growing, by contractors and, increasingly, in forestry for specialised treatments.
