Seed drills

Seed drills are agricultural machines designed to deposit seeds precisely into the soil. They replace manual sowing and ensure uniform crop development, optimal plant spacing and precise sowing depth for maximum yield.

The main types are seed drills for cereals, rapeseed and pulses (mechanical or pneumatic), precision seed drills (for maize, sugar beet, sunflowers and soya), mulch/direct-drill seeders for minimum-till cultivation, pneumatic seeders for very wide working widths, and universal mounted seed drills on rotary harrows.

Common manufacturers include Amazone, Horsch, Lemken, Pöttinger, Kverneland, Kuhn, Väderstad, Maschio, Monosem and Sulky.

Seed drills are used in all arable farms for sowing cereals, maize, rapeseed, sugar beet and special crops, as well as by contractors and in research settings for experimental sowing.
