Special machines

Custom-built machinery comprises machines that are individually designed and manufactured for specific production or processing tasks for which no standard solution is available on the market. Key areas include bespoke solutions based on customer specifications, as well as prototype construction for research, development and small-batch production.

Typical special-purpose machines include customised automatic assembly machines, inspection and test stations, handling robots with special grippers, sorting and de-bunking systems, and interlinked production lines for the series production of a specific product.

Manufacturers are often specialised mechanical engineering firms or engineering consultancies that focus on custom machine construction and automation. Due to their bespoke design, custom machines are frequently available second-hand once their original purpose has ceased.

Special-purpose machines are used in the automotive supply industry, electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical and medical technology, the packaging industry, and in the high-volume production of consumer goods.
