Buses are motor vehicles designed for the commercial transport of passengers. They vary considerably in size, fittings and comfort depending on their intended use and passenger capacity.
The main types are regular service buses (city and intercity buses, low-floor for accessibility), coaches (high-deck and double-deck, equipped with toilets, air conditioning and Wi-Fi), minibuses/small buses (up to 17 passengers, often used as hotel or shuttle buses), low-floor articulated buses for urban transport, as well as school buses and rail replacement service buses.
Common manufacturers include Mercedes-Benz (Citaro, Tourismo, Sprinter), MAN (Lion’s City, Lion’s Coach), Setra (TopClass), Solaris, Volvo Buses, Iveco Bus, Scania, Neoplan, VDL and Van Hool.
Buses are used in public transport (regular and regional services), by tour operators, for company transport by large enterprises, for school transport, in airport shuttle services, and by charter companies and clubs.
