Baling presses

Bale presses compress hay, straw, silage or chopped material into bales that are easy to transport and store. The shape of the bale distinguishes between different types of balers and affects handling, storage and processing.

The main types are round balers (standard for hay, straw and silage, compact and easy to handle), square balers (also known as large-bale balers, highly compacted, ideal for transport and feeding), low-pressure square balers for traditional hay bales, and baler-wrapper combinations for silage in a single pass.

Common manufacturers include Krone, CLAAS, John Deere, New Holland, Case IH, Pöttinger, Kuhn, Massey Ferguson, Vicon and McHale.

Bale presses are used on dairy and beef cattle farms (silage, hay, straw), in horse hay production, by contractors providing harvesting services, in the supply of biogas plants, and in the marketing of straw.
