What we look for in second-hand extraction systems
Airflow and vacuum: The system must be capable of handling the combined output of all machines running simultaneously. We check the fan capacity in m³/h and the vacuum level based on the manufacturer’s specifications and the condition of the impeller and motor.
Filters: Filter surface area, condition of the filter bags and the cleaning mechanism. Wood dust is considered harmful to health, whilst beech and oak dust are classified as carcinogenic; dust extraction systems should meet at least dust class M.
Ductwork: The duct diameter and air velocity must be compatible; otherwise, wood shavings will accumulate. When retrofitting a second-hand system, you must recalculate the ductwork.
Explosion and fire protection: Wood dust is explosive. Larger filter systems are usually located outdoors or require pressure relief; we check spark arrestors and non-return valves to ensure they are complete.
Controls: Automatic activation of the extraction system when machines start up, together with dampers in the ductwork, reduces energy consumption. We check the control cabinet, motor protection and level sensors.
Briquetting press: The press piston, press tube and hydraulic system are wear parts. We check for leaks, press force and the strength of the briquettes.

Centralised or mobile extraction?

Can I burn briquettes from the joinery workshop?
Briquettes made from untreated wood, yes. Varnished or coated offcuts may only be burnt in approved combustion systems in accordance with the 1st BImSchV.
Can the filtered air be recirculated back into the workshop?
Recirculating air saves on heating costs, but is only permitted with suitable filters and a verified residual dust content. Check this with the supplier and your employers’ liability insurance association before purchasing.
How much air do I need?
