Trailers are unpowered vehicles that are towed behind towing vehicles (cars, lorries, tractors). They are classified according to their design (centre-axle, turntable and semi-trailers) and body type.
The main types are car trailers (unbraked up to 750 kg, braked up to 3.5 tonnes), lorry trailers (tandem, three-axle and four-axle models), low-loader trailers for transporting machinery, refrigerated trailers with refrigeration units, tipper trailers for construction and agriculture, and special-purpose trailers such as boat trailers, horsebox trailers or sales trailers.
Common manufacturers include Schmitz Cargobull, Krone, Kögel, Fliegl, Humbaur, Anssems, Saris, Stema, HKM and, for agricultural use, Joskin and Krampe.
Trailers are used universally by tradespeople and private individuals, in freight transport, in agriculture (tipper and flatbed trailers), by haulage contractors, in construction companies, by equestrians, in furniture transport and in event technology.
