View on GoogleBuy new and used Crown high-lift pallet trucks, pallet trucks and forklifts – a wide selection of warehouse equipment direct from specialist dealers. At our company, Crown stands for pallet trucks and high-lift pallet trucks from the WE, ES and ET series; in addition, the market offers reach trucks from the ESR series, electric forklift trucks and order pickers – each listing includes the year of manufacture, load capacity, lift height, mast configuration and, where specified, operating hours. Our Crown stock comes from Zoch in Aidenbach; the stock changes constantly. This refers to industrial trucks from Crown Equipment Corporation – not packaging or other companies with ‘Crown’ in their name.
Crown at a glance
Crown Equipment was founded in 1945 in New Bremen, Ohio, by brothers Carl H. and Allen A. Dicke and remains headquartered there to this day. Its roots lie in a family-run business manufacturing thermostats and regulators; the first industrial trucks were added in the mid-1950s, followed in 1980 by the RR-series narrow-aisle reach truck and, in 2009, the C-5 series of internal combustion forklifts. The company remains family-owned to this day – now in its fourth generation – with Jim Dicke III serving as president. According to its own figures, Crown employs around 20,000 people, operates through more than 500 locations in over 80 countries and generated a turnover of around 5.3 billion US dollars in 2024 – ranking fourth in the industry rankings published by the trade journal *Modern Materials Handling*.
The European headquarters are based in Feldkirchen near Munich. Crown has been manufacturing in Roding, in the Upper Palatinate, since 1986, initially with 50 employees; in 2014, a second plant was added, featuring a 20-metre-high glass test tower, and today 19 vehicle series roll off the production line there. A hallmark of the brand is its high level of vertical integration: according to the company’s own figures, Crown manufactures up to 85 per cent of its components in-house, including engines and electronics. This is complemented by a strong focus on design and ergonomics, for which the machines have received numerous design awards.

What the Crown model designation reveals
Crown combines a series code with a serial number and, for many machines, the load capacity. The letters indicate the model type: WP is the pedestrian pallet truck, WT the ride-on pallet truck, ES the walkie pallet truck and ET the ride-on high-lift pallet truck with folding platform, ESR the reach truck, SC and FC are electric counterbalanced forklifts, GPC a horizontal order picker, TSP is a high-rack forklift. The four-digit number indicates the generation, such as ES 4000 or ESR 5000. The load capacity usually follows a hyphen or a space: an ES 4000-1.6 has a load capacity of 1.6 t. The letters that follow – for high-lift trucks, for example, TL, TF or TT – denote the mast design. In the case of the current reach trucks, the models ESR 1225, 1245 and 1265 differ in design: narrow chassis, standard and heavy-duty.
| Type | Load capacity | Design | Typical application |
|---|---|---|---|
| WP 3000 | up to 2.0 t | Drawbar pallet truck | Unloading lorries, transport in the goods-in area |
| WE 2300 | up to 1.6 t | Walk-behind high-lift pallet truck (older series) | small warehouses, medium-height racking |
| ES 4000 | 1.2–1.6 t | Walk-behind high-lift pallet truck | Storage up to approx. 5 m, production |
| ET 4000 | 1.2–1.6 t | High-lift pallet truck with folding platform | Longer travel distances, also available as a double-deck version |
| ESR 5000 / ESR 1245 | 1.4–2.0 t | Reach truck | High-bay, narrow aisles up to over 12 m |
| SC 5300 / SC 6000 | 1.3–2.0 t | Electric counterbalanced | Ramp, production, indoors |
| GPC 3000 | 2.0–2.7 t | Horizontal order picker | Order picking on the first level |
| TSP 6000 / 7000 | up to 1.5 t | High-rack forklift | Narrow-aisle high-bay warehouse |
What we look for in a second-hand Crown
Battery and charger: Almost all Crown machines are electric. The age, capacity and condition of the battery (lead-acid or lithium-ion) determine the running costs; ensure the charger with the correct voltage is included and check the discharge indicator.
Mast, chains and lift height: For high-lift trucks and reach trucks, check for play in the mast profiles, chain elongation and leak-tightness of the lift cylinders; also ensure the mast type (TL, TF, TT) matches the required lift height and clearance height.
Tiller, platform and controls: Check the deadman’s switch, safety belly switch, horn and brake on the tiller; for ET models, check the folding platform and side guard rails; for reach trucks, check the reach movement and driver’s cab.
Type plate and documentation: Check the model, load capacity, year of manufacture and serial number on the type plate against the advertisement; check the operating hours and maintenance records. For Germany, ensure proof of the annual inspection in accordance with DGUV Regulation 68 is provided.

Frequently asked questions about Crown
What do ES, ET, WP or ESR stand for with Crown?
The letters denote the model type: WP stands for the electric pedestrian pallet truck, ES for the walk-behind high-lift truck, ET for the high-lift truck with a folding driver’s platform, and ESR for the reach truck. The four-digit number, such as 4000 or 5000, identifies the series, whilst the figure following it usually indicates the load capacity – an ES 4000-1.6 has a load capacity of 1.6 tonnes.
Where does Crown come from?
Crown Equipment was founded in 1945 in New Bremen, Ohio, and remains a family-owned business to this day. Its European headquarters are in Feldkirchen near Munich, whilst production has been based in Roding, Bavaria, since 1986.
Which Crown machines are most commonly traded on the second-hand market?
High-lift trucks such as the ES 4000, ET 4000 and the older WE 2300 account for the largest share, followed by reach trucks from the ESR series, WP 3000 pedestrian pallet trucks and order pickers from the GPC series.
Does Crown also manufacture diesel and gas-powered forklifts?
Yes, with the C-D (diesel) and C-G (LPG) series up to 5.5 t. However, the brand’s focus is clearly on electric warehouse equipment, reach trucks and electric counterbalanced forklifts; second-hand Crown internal combustion forklifts are comparatively rare.
What is a double-deck high-lift pallet truck?
It has wheel arms with an initial lift and an additional mast, so it can transport two pallets one on top of the other. This speeds up the loading and unloading of lorries. Crown offers the DS/DT and RTD series for this purpose, as well as double-deck variants of the ET series.
How many operating hours are acceptable for a second-hand Crown high-lift truck?
The number of operating hours alone is not very telling, as high-lift forklifts are often only used intermittently and therefore accumulate fewer hours than a forklift operating in shift work. The decisive factors are the condition of the battery, the mast and chains, the tiller functions and a verifiable maintenance history.
Are there any Crown machines with lithium-ion batteries?
Yes, many current series – such as the ESR reach trucks – are available with a choice of lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries. For used machines, the battery type is specified in the advert or can be obtained on request from the dealer.
Can I lease a Crown forklift or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a no-obligation leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can clarify the terms and conditions with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are arranged directly between you and the seller.
