What to look out for in second-hand slurry and fertiliser equipment
Pump and compressor: For pump tankers, check the flow rate, piston wear and seals on rotary piston or centrifugal pumps; for vacuum tanks, check the compressor, pressure relief valve and vacuum valve. We enquire about operating hours and the date of the last service.
Tank and chassis: Check for internal corrosion on the tank, the condition of the galvanisation, and cracks on the drawbar and chassis. For tanks with a docking arm and gooseneck, check the joints and hydraulic cylinders.
Spreader and cutting unit: Skid shoes and coulters, hoses, spreader head and cutting unit (blades and counter-blade) are wear parts. Uniform lateral distribution is essential for fertiliser planning.
Chassis, brakes and registration: Steered axles, air brakes, tyres and registration documents; for tridem tankers, observe the permissible axle loads for road use.
Spreader: Check spreading discs, throwing vanes and agitator for wear; check the function of load cells and EMC control; check ISOBUS control system with GPS section control.

Brands and dealers
Kotte from the Münsterland region offers the widest range of slurry equipment in our portfolio, comprising pump tanks and vacuum tanks, whilst Kaweco from the Netherlands provides large professional-grade tanks and docking systems. Briri, Meyer Lohne, Wienhoff and Rheinland round out the tandem segment, whilst Bomech, Samson, Vredo and Veenhuis cover application technology. Rauch and Amazone supply mineral fertiliser spreaders. All machines are offered by Mecklenburger Landtechnik GmbH.
Frequently asked questions about second-hand slurry tanks and fertiliser spreaders
What application method is required for slurry?
Under the Fertiliser Ordinance, liquid farm manure must be applied in strips or incorporated directly onto cultivated arable land from 2020 and onto grassland from 2025 – using a drag hose, drag shoe or slotted applicator. Wide-spreaders are therefore now only suitable in limited circumstances; exceptions are regulated by the federal states.
Pump tanker or vacuum tank?
Vacuum tanks are simple in design and reliably suck up even thick slurry. Pump tankers with rotary lobe pumps fill up more quickly and build up stable pressure for wide-spreaders. For drag-shoe booms from 15 m, we recommend a pump tanker.
How much does a second-hand slurry tanker cost?
Tandem tankers with a capacity of 15,000–18,000 litres and a distribution system cost approximately €29,000–70,000. Large tridem and professional tankers with a 15-metre drag shoe cost around €110,000–134,000. The spreading boom often accounts for a third of the value.
How big should the tank be for my tractor?
As a rule of thumb, we allow for a tank capacity of around 100 litres per PS for tandem tanks used in arable farming. An 18,000-litre tank requires a tractor with at least approx. 200 PS, sufficient drawbar weight and air brakes.
Is a fertiliser spreader with weighing technology worth it?
Spreaders such as the Rauch Axis EMC+W or the Amazone ZA-M Ultra continuously adjust the application rate and dispense more accurately. With mineral fertiliser costs running into several hundred euros per hectare, the technology pays for itself quickly on larger farms.
