STILL at a glance
STILL was founded in 1920 by Hans Still in Hamburg, initially as a workshop for electric motors. Following electric trolleys and tractors, the first STILL electric forklift truck was introduced in 1949. In 1973, Linde AG took over the company; since 2006, STILL has been part of the KION GROUP – as has its sister brand, Linde. STILL employs around 8,900 people, operates in 73 countries and has production facilities in Hamburg, Reutlingen and Geisa, as well as in Luzzara (Italy), Châtellerault (France), Xiamen (China) and Indaiatuba (Brazil). Its headquarters are in Hamburg-Billbrook.
Two technologies are characteristic of STILL: the RX 70 diesel and LPG forklift operates on a diesel-electric system – the internal combustion engine drives a generator, whilst the vehicle is powered electrically. And, according to STILL, the Blue-Q efficiency mode saves 10 to 20 per cent energy at the touch of a button; it is available on the RX 60, RX 70, FM-X and EXV, amongst others. STILL offers lithium-ion batteries for the RX 20 and FM-X.

What the STILL model designation reveals
At STILL, the first part indicates the series, whilst the number after the hyphen denotes the load capacity in 100 kg: an RX 20-16 is an electric forklift truck from the RX 20 series with a load capacity of 1.6 t, an RX 60-30 is a forklift from the RX 60 series with a 3.0 t capacity, and an RX 70-30 is a diesel-electric forklift with a 3.0 t capacity. In warehouse technology, the load capacity follows directly after the abbreviation: EXU 16 = low-lift pallet truck with a capacity of 1.6 t, EXH 25 = 2.5 t. The predecessors to the RX family are called R20, R60 and R70 – they are still available on the market, mostly with model years up to around 2012.
| Type | Drive | Load capacity | Typical application |
|---|---|---|---|
| RX 20-14 to RX 20-20 | Electric | 1.4–2.0 t | STILL’s best-selling series: warehouse, ramp, production |
| RX 50 | Electric, compact | up to 1.5 t | Narrow aisles, retail, workshop |
| RX 60-25 / -30 / -35 | Electric | 2.5–3.5 t | Multi-shift operation, heavy pallets, indoor and outdoor use |
| RX 60-40 to RX 60-80 | Electric | 4.0–8.0 t | Beverages, building materials, heavy-duty electric |
| RX 70-16 to RX 70-80 | Diesel/LPG, diesel-electric | 1.6–8.0 t | Yard, building materials, timber, recycling |
| EXU 16 / 18 / 20 | Electric low-lift pallet trucks | 1.6–2.0 t | Loading and unloading of lorries, order picking |
| EXV 10–20 | Electric high-lift pallet truck | 1.0–2.0 t | Medium-height racking, small warehouses |
| FM-X | Reach stacker | up to 2.5 t, lift height up to 14 m | High-bay racking, narrow aisles |
What we look for in a used STILL forklift
Battery and charger: The age, charge cycles and capacity of the battery determine the running costs of an electric forklift; the correct charger should be included. Lithium-ion batteries (RX 20, FM-X) recharge during breaks.
Electronics and fault memory: STILL forklifts record operating hours and fault codes; have the memory read out and cross-check it against the service log. For the RX 70, also check the alternator and drive motor under load.
Mast, forks, chains: Check for play in the mast profiles, chain elongation, fork wear (maximum 10 per cent loss of thickness) and auxiliary hydraulics. For reach trucks, inspect the reach frame, residual load capacity at great heights and the cab.
Documentation: Ask for the type plate showing the model series and year of manufacture, maintenance records and the annual inspection in accordance with DGUV Regulation 68.

Frequently asked questions about STILL forklifts
What does RX 20-16 or RX 60-30 mean?
The first part refers to the series (RX 20 = compact electric forklifts, RX 60 = electric forklifts 2.5–8 t, RX 70 = diesel/LPG), whilst the number after the hyphen indicates the load capacity in 100 kg. An RX 20-16 therefore has a load capacity of 1.6 t, whilst an RX 60-30 has a load capacity of 3.0 t.
Which STILL forklifts are the most commonly traded second-hand models?
On the major second-hand marketplaces, the RX 60 and RX 20 electric forklifts – particularly the RX 20-16, RX 20-20, RX 60-25 and RX 60-30 – lead the way on the major second-hand marketplaces, followed by the FM-X reach truck, the EXV high-lift truck and the RX 70. The selection is correspondingly large, and spare parts are readily available.
What makes the STILL RX 70 special?
The RX 70 is diesel-electric: the diesel or LPG engine drives a generator, and the electricity is fed to an electric drive motor. This reduces the need for wear parts such as the clutch and gearbox, and makes the forklift responsive and economical.
What is Blue-Q?
Blue-Q is an efficiency mode that the driver activates at the touch of a button. According to STILL, this reduces energy consumption by 10 to 20 per cent. Blue-Q is available for the RX 60, RX 70, FM-X and EXV, amongst others.
Are STILL and Linde the same company?
Both are part of the KION GROUP and share production facilities and components, but operate as independent brands with their own product ranges and sales networks. STILL is based in Hamburg, Linde in Aschaffenburg.
What is the difference between the R20/R60 and the RX 20/RX 60?
The R20, R60 and R70 are the previous model ranges, which were manufactured until around 2012. The RX generation features more modern drive systems, controls and cabs; second-hand R-series forklifts are cheaper, but spare parts are still available through the STILL network.
How many operating hours are acceptable for a second-hand STILL forklift?
Provided there is evidence of regular servicing, 8,000 to 12,000 hours is no problem for internal combustion models. For electric forklifts, the condition of the battery is the key factor; a new or reconditioned battery significantly increases the value of a machine with high operating hours.
Can I lease a STILL forklift or finance it through hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a non-binding leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
