View on GoogleBuy new and used Toyota forklift trucks – electric, diesel and LPG forklifts directly from specialist dealers. This page features industrial trucks from Toyota Material Handling, i.e. forklift trucks and warehouse equipment – not passenger cars. You’ll find Toyota forklifts from the Traigo (electric) and Tonero (diesel and LPG) ranges with load capacities from 1.5 to 8 tonnes; the listings include the year of manufacture, operating hours, lift height and mast type, supplied by Zoch in Aidenbach. The selection is constantly growing; filter by load capacity, lift height, year of manufacture and operating hours. Warehouse equipment from the sister brand can be found under BT.
Toyota Material Handling at a glance
Toyota forklift trucks are manufactured by Toyota Industries Corporation. The company was founded in 1926 as Toyoda Automatic Loom Works – from which the car manufacturer Toyota emerged in 1937. Toyota has been building forklift trucks since 1956, starting with the Model LA, which had a load capacity of one tonne; since 2001, Toyota Industries has been the world’s largest manufacturer of industrial trucks. Since 2000, the group has included the Swedish warehouse equipment brand BT (along with the US brand Raymond) and the Italian brand Cesab. For the European market, over 95 per cent of the equipment sold is manufactured in Europe: internal combustion forklifts in Ancenis (France), electric counterbalanced forklifts in Bologna (Italy), warehouse equipment and hand pallet trucks in Mjölby (Sweden). The German headquarters is Toyota Material Handling Deutschland in Isernhagen near Hanover.
A key technical feature is the System of Active Stability (SAS), which Toyota introduced in 1999: sensors monitor travel, steering and the mast; lock the oscillating axle of the four-wheel forklifts when cornering; and limit mast tilt and cornering speed. SAS is now fitted as standard on all Toyota counterbalanced forklift trucks – and is one reason why Toyota forklift trucks are in demand even on the second-hand market.

What the Toyota model designation reveals
A Toyota model designation such as 02-8FGF25 or 8FBMT40 is read as follows: the number before the ‘F’ indicates the series (7-series, 8-series or the current 9-series), whilst ‘F’ stands for forklift. This is followed by the drive type: B = battery (electric), D = diesel, G = LPG. An ‘E’ after the ‘B’ denotes 3-wheel electric forklifts (8FBE, 8FBET, 8FBEK). The number at the end is the load capacity in tonnes, rounded to one decimal place: 25 = 2.5 t, 40 = 4.0 t, 50 = 5.0 t. The prefixes before the hyphen (02- for LPG, 42- or 52- for diesel) are variant codes from the Tonero data sheets. The corresponding trade names are: Traigo 24/48/80 for electric forklifts – the number indicates the battery voltage in volts – and Tonero for diesel and LPG models.
| Type | Drive | Load capacity | Typical application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8FBE15 / 8FBET16 / 8FBEK18 | Electric 3-wheel (Traigo 48) | 1.5–1.8 t | Confined spaces, ramps, retail |
| 8FBMT16–20 / 8FBMK | Electric 4-wheel (Traigo 48) | 1.6–2.0 t | Production, warehouse, indoors and outdoors |
| 8FBMKT25 / 8FBMT30 | Electric 4-wheel (Traigo 80) | 2.5–3.0 t | Multi-shift, heavy-duty pallets |
| 8FBMT40 / 8FBMT50 | Electric 4-wheel (Traigo 80) | 4.0–5.0 t | Beverages, building materials, steel |
| 9FBH80 | Electric 80 V, high tonnage | up to 8 t | Heavy-duty with electric drive |
| 02-8FGF15–35 / 8FGF25 | Propellant gas (Tonero) | 1.5–3.5 t | Indoor and outdoor areas, paper, beverages |

What we look for in a used Toyota forklift
Battery in electric forklifts: For lead-acid batteries, ask for details of age, charge cycles and a capacity test – the battery is the biggest cost factor. According to Toyota, lithium-ion batteries (Traigo 48 and 80) can manage up to 5,000 charge cycles, compared with around 1,500 for lead-acid batteries, and can be top-up charged during breaks.
SAS and electronics: Have the fault memory read out; the SAS sensors on the swing axle and mast must operate without triggering any warning messages. The display shows the operating hours – check these against the maintenance log.
Mast and forks: Check for play in the mast profiles, elongation of the lifting chains, fork wear (maximum 10 per cent loss of thickness) and side shifters. Lifting height and mast design are specified in the advert.
Diesel and LPG: Cold start, smoke pattern, emission standard; for LPG forklifts, check the vaporiser and gas pipes. For operation in Germany, the annual inspection in accordance with DGUV Regulation 68 is mandatory – ensure you are provided with proof of this.
Toyota in our region: Dealers and stock
Zoch in Aidenbach (Lower Bavaria) stocks used Toyota electric forklifts from the 8 and 9 series, ranging from 2.5 to 8 tonnes, as well as Toyota diesel forklifts and BT warehouse equipment – reconditioned, with operating hours and year of manufacture listed in the advert. You can find comparable forklifts under Linde, Still and Jungheinrich; view the full stock in the ‘Forklifts & Industrial Trucks’ category.
Frequently asked questions about Toyota forklift trucks
What does 8FBMT40 or 02-8FGF25 mean?
8 = 8 series, F = forklift, B = battery (electric), G = LPG, D = diesel; the number at the end is the load capacity in tonnes, rounded to one decimal place. An 8FBMT40 is therefore a 4.0-tonne electric 4-wheel forklift, whilst a 02-8FGF25 is a 2.5-tonne LPG forklift (Tonero).
What is the difference between Traigo and Tonero?
Traigo is the range of electric forklifts (Traigo 24, 48 and 80 – the number indicates the battery voltage), whilst Tonero is the range of diesel and LPG forklifts from 1.5 to 8 tonnes.
What is the SAS on Toyota forklifts?
The System of Active Stability has been monitoring travel, steering and the mast since 1999 and actively stabilises the forklift: it locks the oscillating axle when cornering and limits mast tilt and cornering speed. SAS is fitted as standard on all Toyota counterbalanced forklifts.
Are BT and Toyota the same brand?
Both are part of Toyota Material Handling: in Europe, Toyota is known for counterbalanced forklifts and tow tractors, whilst BT is known for warehouse equipment such as pallet trucks, high-lift trucks and reach trucks. Second-hand BT machines are often also marketed as ‘Toyota BT’ – servicing and spare parts are handled through the same network.
How many operating hours are acceptable for a second-hand Toyota forklift?
Provided there is evidence of regular maintenance, 8,000 to 12,000 hours is not a cause for concern for diesel and LPG forklifts. With electric forklifts, it is the condition of the battery and the drive and lift motors that matters more than the number of operating hours.
Are there any Toyota forklifts with lithium-ion batteries?
Yes, the Traigo 48 and Traigo 80 are available with lithium-ion batteries. They can be topped up during breaks and can withstand significantly more charge cycles than lead-acid batteries. So far, the market for second-hand forklift trucks has predominantly consisted of lead-acid models.
Where are Toyota forklifts manufactured for the European market?
Internal combustion forklifts in Ancenis (France), electric counterbalanced forklifts in Bologna (Italy), and BT-branded warehouse equipment in Mjölby (Sweden) – over 95 per cent of the machines sold in Europe come from these plants.
Can I lease a Toyota forklift or finance it through a hire-purchase scheme?
For many listings, you can submit a no-obligation leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
