Maschio Gaspardo at a glance
Maschio was founded in 1964 by the brothers Antonio, Egidio and Giorgio Maschio in Campodarsego near Padua, where the group is still headquartered today. In 1993, Maschio acquired the seed drill manufacturer Gaspardo Seminatrici from Morsano al Tagliamento, whose roots date back to 1834 – since then, the company has been known as Maschio Gaspardo. Later, Unigreen (crop protection, 2012), the plough manufacturer Moro Pietro Meccanica (2013, now Maschio Aratri) and Officine Meccaniche Feraboli (hay harvesting equipment, 2014) were added to the group. A German sales organisation has been in place since 1996.
The group manufactures in Italy at sites including Campodarsego, Morsano al Tagliamento, Cadoneghe and Cremona, and abroad in Chișineu-Criș (Romania), Qingdao (China) and Pune (India). Around 2,000 people work for Maschio Gaspardo; in 2021, turnover stood at around 390 million euros. Since 2022, the founding family has regained a majority stake via Maschio Holding.

What the Maschio model names reveal
Maschio names its product ranges after Italian names, often based on animals: the rotary harrows, for example, are called Delfino (dolphin), Drago (dragon), Falco (falcon), Gabbiano (seagull), Aquila (eagle), Toro (bull) and Jumbo, whilst the mulchers are called Bufalo, Bisonte or Giraffa. The abbreviations DL, DC and DM stand for Delfino, Drago and Dominator. The number following them usually indicates the working width – in millimetres for rotary harrows (DM 3000 ≈ 3 m, Aquila 6000 ≈ 6 m), and in centimetres for rotary tillers and mulchers (SC 280, Bufalo 280). Additions such as ‘Rapido’ and ‘Isotronic’ on large folding harrows describe the model variant, whilst ‘Combi’ in advertisements usually indicates a combination with a seed drill. The rotary tillers are identified by letter codes (L, W, A, H, U, B, C, SC, G); the working width and permissible tractor power, as stated on the type plate, clarify which performance class corresponds to each code.
| Model | Data | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Delfino DL | small rotary harrow, approx. 1.5 m | Vegetables, horticulture, small tractors |
| DM (Dominator) 3000 | Fixed-blade rotary harrow, 3 m | Maschio’s best-selling model: seedbed preparation in arable farming, often used in combination with a seed drill |
| DC (Drago) 3000 | Fixed rotary harrow, 3 m | For more powerful tractors, used in combination with a seed drill |
| Gabbiano / Falco 5000 | Folding rotary harrow, 5 m | larger arable farms |
| Aquila 6000 | Folding rotary harrow, 6 m, also Rapido | Large areas, contract farming |
| SC 280 / U 205 / H 205 | Rotary tiller, 2.05–2.8 m | Vegetable growing, specialist crops, grassland regeneration |
| Artiglio 300 / 400 | Cultivator, 3–4 m | Stubble cultivation and loosening |
| Bufalo / Bisonte 280 | Flail mower, 2.8 m | Cover crops, grassland, maintenance |
What we look for in a second-hand Maschio
Rotary beam and gearbox: The heart of every rotary harrow is the oil-filled rotary beam. Check the oil level and condition, the seals on the rotary shafts and any noises when spinning; play in the bearings indicates a need for repair.
Tines, blades and flails: Rotary harrow tines, milling blades and mulcher flails are wear parts. Check the length and fastenings; for quick-change tines, check the condition of the holders. On a mulcher, ensure the set of flails is even – missing or uneven flails cause imbalance and damage the bearings.
Roll and combination: Check the packer, toothed packer or cage roller for bearings and scrapers. For seed drill combinations, check whether the seed drill and rotary harrow are compatible and that the coupling (quick-release coupling) is complete.
PTO shaft and power requirements: Ensure the PTO shaft is fitted with an overload or cam-type clutch and check the guard. The permissible tractor power is stated on the type plate – overloading an implement that is too weak risks causing gearbox damage.

Frequently asked questions about Maschio
Are Maschio and Gaspardo the same company?
Yes. Maschio took over the seed drill manufacturer Gaspardo in 1993; since then, the group has been known as Maschio Gaspardo. Soil cultivation and mulchers are usually marketed under the Maschio brand, whilst sowing equipment is marketed under Gaspardo.
What do DM and DC mean in the context of Maschio rotary harrows?
DM stands for the Dominator series, DC for Drago – both are rigid rotary harrows. The number following the letters usually indicates the working width in millimetres; a DM 3000, for example, has a working width of around 3 m.
Which Maschio implements are most commonly traded on the second-hand market?
On the major second-hand portals, rotary harrows lead the way, particularly the DM and DC models in 3 m widths, as well as the Gabbiano, Falco and Aquila folding harrows. These are joined by rotary tillers, mulchers such as the Bufalo and Bisonte, and the Artiglio cultivator.
Where are Maschio implements manufactured?
The head office is in Campodarsego near Padua; manufacturing takes place at several Italian plants as well as in Romania, China and India. Around 2,000 people work for the group.
Rotary harrow or rotary tiller – what is the difference?
The rotary harrow works with vertical, rotating tines and crumbles the soil without mixing it thoroughly – typical for seedbed preparation. The rotary tiller uses a horizontal shaft and blades to mix plant residues thoroughly and is widely used in vegetable growing and specialist crops.
Can I combine a Maschio rotary harrow with a different seed drill?
In principle, yes, provided the mounting space, roller and coupling are compatible. Many second-hand Maschio rotary harrows are already offered as a combination with a Gaspardo or third-party seed drill – usually marked ‘Combi’ in the advert.
What is included with a second-hand Maschio mulcher?
A PTO shaft, all safety guards and a set of flails in good condition. For side-shift or embankment mulchers such as the Giraffa, also check the hydraulic hoses and control system.
Can I lease a Maschio machine or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings – both new and used – you can submit a non-binding leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
