Description

When a construction site requires both a high air flow rate and high pressure – and needs to be mains-independent – a high-performance diesel compressor is the right choice. The Atlas Copco XAS 188-14 delivers up to 11.4 m³/min and flexibly regulates the pressure up to 14 bar. This means that a single unit can handle tasks that would otherwise require two compressors: high air volumes for multiple tools and high pressure for blasting or blowing.

Mobile diesel construction compressor with 14 bar for sandblasting, demolition and concrete work

  • Sandblasting and surface treatment: high flow rates and stable high pressure at the tank – with 10.1–11.4 m³/min and up to 14 bar, the XAS 188 is also designed for demanding blasting work.
  • Demolition and pneumatic tools in a team: The high air delivery rate powers several demolition hammers, needle scalers or hammer drills simultaneously – ideal for larger teams.
  • Concrete and asphalt work: Shotcrete, drilling and compaction benefit from the constant compressed air supply provided by the oil-injected screw compressor.
  • Cable blowing and civil engineering: PACE technology allows the pressure to be increased to 14 bar – suitable for cable blowing and pressure testing.
  • Mining, quarrying and industry: Where sustained high pressure and air flow are required, the robust John Deere drive really comes into its own.

The three key figures

Operating pressure 5–14 bar. Using PACE technology, we can flexibly adjust the target pressure – from low pressure for tools to high pressure for blasting and blowing. A single unit can often replace two fixed-setting compressors.

Air flow rate 10.1–11.4 m³/min. In short: pressure is the force, air flow rate is the volume. This flow rate range is sufficient for several tools operating in parallel or a large blasting chamber – provided the hose line is of sufficient size.

Engine: Diesel John Deere, 104 kW, Euro 5 emissions standard. The John Deere 4045HI551 (1950–2200 rpm) complies with the current EUStage V emissions standard and is designed for long-term, continuous operation. ECO-Mode reduces fuel consumption by up to 50% when idling.

Standard equipment

  • Braked, height-adjustable chassis for safe transport over uneven terrain
  • NK-WA-PD fine filter (ZTV-SIB-compliant) with bypass system for dry, clean air
  • PACE technology with variably adjustable pressure (5–14 bar)
  • ECO mode for up to 50% lower fuel consumption when idling
  • 110% spill-proof containment frame (spillage-free containment)
  • Spin-on filter for easy maintenance without special tools
  • Compressed air outlets: 3× G 3/4, 1× G 1 1/2

What to look out for before buying

  1. Towing vehicle and weight. With an operating weight of 2,340 kg (fully fuelled), the XAS 188 requires a suitably authorised towing vehicle and an appropriate towing capacity – unlike the lightweight compact compressors.
  2. Pressure and flow rate must suit the application. For purely tool-based work, low pressure at full flow rate is sufficient; for blasting and air blowing, the high-pressure range is essential. The PACE setting should be appropriate for the actual application.
  3. Air preparation. For blasting and other surface treatments requiring high-purity air, water separators and fine filters must be taken into account – the NK-WA-PD filter is already fitted for this purpose.

Frequently asked questions

What is the delivery rate of 10.1–11.4 m³/min sufficient for?

This flow rate range is sufficient to power several large pneumatic tools simultaneously or to supply a high-performance blasting chamber. It is important to use short, adequately sized hoses to ensure that the pressure at the tool remains stable.

Is the XAS 188 suitable for sandblasting?

Yes, very well. For blasting work, what counts is flow rate and stable pressure at the blasting tank, plus dry air – the XAS 188 delivers both, and the NK-WA-PD fine filter ensures the necessary air quality.

Is the compressor permitted to operate in low-emission zones?

The John Deere engine complies with the EU Stage V emissions standard and therefore meets the current emissions regulations for use in Germany and Europe.

What towing vehicle do I need?

With an operating weight of around 2,340 kg, the XAS 188 requires a towing vehicle with the appropriate towing capacity and the relevant driving licence. The braked, height-adjustable chassis ensures safe transport.

What are the benefits of PACE technology?

PACE allows the operating pressure to be variably adjusted from 5 to 14 bar. This enables the unit to adapt flexibly to different tasks – from tooling work to high-pressure applications – and often replaces the need for a second compressor.

What about fuel consumption and maintenance?

ECO-Mode reduces fuel consumption by up to 50 per cent when idling. Spin-on filters that require no special tools and long service intervals keep running costs low.
