New Atlas Copco E-Air H450 VSD electric construction compressor, mobile construction site compressor
On inner-city building sites, in halls, tunnels and low-emission zones, the first question is not how much air a compressor delivers – but whether it is even permitted to operate there. Diesel compressors fall short due to emissions regulations, noise and the need for daily refuelling. That is precisely why we have the Atlas Copco E-Air H450 VSD in our range: a mobile, oil-injected screw compressor with an electric permanent magnet motor and variable speed drive (VSD). Compressed air with no local emissions, wherever there’s a 400 V power supply.
Who is it for and what jobs is it suitable for?
- Compressed-air tools on site: At 5–8 bar, the 13.2 m³/min flow rate powers several tools simultaneously – jackhammers, drills, needle scalers. A short, suitably sized hose is required.
- Sandblasting and surface preparation: A steady 7–10 bar at the tank plus dry air. The electric drive enables blasting work in halls and courtyards where a diesel-powered unit would breach regulations.
- Cable blowing and pipeline construction: Upper pressure range up to 13 bar. The PACE control system often eliminates the need for a second high-pressure compressor, provided that the blowing specifications remain within the 13-bar range.
- City centres, tunnels, low-emission zones: No exhaust, 61 dB(A) at 7 m – designed for noise- and emission-sensitive locations. In enclosed spaces, only ventilation is required; there is no need for exhaust ducting.
The three key figures
Operating pressure 5–13 bar. We use the PACE control system on the XC2003 controller to adjust the set pressure continuously. This means a single unit can handle hand tools (5–7 bar), sandblasting (8–10 bar) and high-pressure blowing (up to 13 bar) – and thus often replaces two fixed-setting diesel units.
Flow rate 13.2–9.72 m³/min. In short: pressure is the force, flow rate is the volume. If you lower the pressure, the screw block delivers a higher flow rate (13.2 m³/min at 5 bar); raise it, and the flow rate drops (9.72 m³/min at 13 bar). Several 20-kg hammers require high flow rates, whilst an air blower primarily needs high pressure.
Electrical power: 75 kW. 380–460 V ±10 per cent, 50/60 Hz, three-phase, approximately 150 A rated current, connected via Powerlock. Without a suitable 400 V connection or a generator with sufficient continuous power, the unit will not operate – regardless of any technical specifications. The permanent magnet motor starts without the typical current spike associated with a fixed-speed asynchronous motor.
Standard equipment
- HardHat cover made of polyethylene with U-Flex access to maintenance points
- Permanent magnet motor and water-cooled frequency converter, both IP66
- PACE pressure control with switchable setpoints, ‘ECO’ mode, remote start
- 110 per cent leak-proof frame; base made from a single sheet of metal with no welded seams
- Aftercooler with bypass, water separator and UD fine filter (ISO 8573-1)
- Maintenance interval: 2,000 operating hours or 2 years – no diesel engine, no fuel or exhaust system
What to look out for before purchasing
- Sort out the power supply first, then the pressure. 75 kW and around 150 A require a robust 400 V supply. Undervoltage will destroy the inverter faster than a hose that’s too short will damage the hammer.
- Balance pressure against flow rate. Continuous blowing at 12–13 bar operates at around 9.72 m³/min; three hammers running in parallel require sufficient flow capacity and short pipework.
- Determine the air treatment requirements. An after-cooler is often sufficient for tools. For blasting and injection, water separators and fine filters are required – damp air causes blasting media to clump and freezes the fittings in winter.

Frequently asked questions
How much power does the E-Air H450 VSD require?
Around 150 A at 380–460 V three-phase current. Before delivery, we will check with you whether your site power box or generator can reliably provide the required continuous power.
Can I run the compressor on a generator?
Yes, provided the generator offers sufficient continuous power, a stable voltage and the correct cable cross-section. Undervoltage is the most common cause of damage to inverters.
Is the unit suitable for sandblasting?
For most blasting jobs, yes – the key factors are a stable 7–10 bar at the tank and dry air. We recommend ordering a water separator and fine filter as standard.
What does VSD stand for, and what are its benefits on site?
VSD (Variable Speed Drive) regulates the motor speed as required. A unit running at a fixed speed blows excess air into the atmosphere; the H450 VSD reduces its speed – this saves energy during part-load operation, and it is precisely this part-load operation that is the norm on a building site.
Can the compressor be operated in low-emission zones and indoors?
Yes. It emits no exhaust fumes on site and operates at 61 dB(A) at a distance of 7 m. In enclosed spaces, simply ensure there is adequate ventilation to manage the waste heat from the 75 kW drive.
How often does it need servicing?
Every 2,000 operating hours or every 2 years. As there is no diesel engine running, all fuel and exhaust maintenance is eliminated; visual inspections of filters and coolers remain.
Do you supply the unit with a chassis?
Our fully equipped version includes a braked, height-adjustable chassis. Weighing 1,200 kg, the compressor can be towed by an approved towing vehicle.
