View on GoogleBuy new and used Kalmar reach stackers and heavy-duty forklifts – a wide selection of port and industrial equipment directly from specialist dealers. We mainly stock Kalmar reach stackers from the DRF and DRG series, heavy-duty forklifts from the DCE, DCF and DCG series, electric forklifts from the ECG series and container handlers – each listing includes the year of manufacture, operating hours, load capacity, load centre of gravity and lift height. The equipment is supplied by Hinrichs Flurfördergeräte and Zoch in Aidenbach; the stock is constantly changing. This refers to Kalmar, the manufacturer of port and heavy-duty technology – not the Swedish town of the same name.
Kalmar at a glance
Kalmar’s roots lie in two countries. In Sweden, in 1949, a small workshop in Lidhult built its first forklift truck for a local sawmill; Lidhults Mekaniska Verkstad (LMV) began mass production in 1952. In 1974, the state-owned company Kalmar Verkstad AB took over the firm, and Ljungbytruck was added in 1975. In Finland, the first gantry forklift for industrial applications was developed in Härmälä near Tampere in the late 1940s, whilst in the USA, Ottawa Steel unveiled the world’s first terminal tractor in 1958. In 1985, Kalmar built the first prototype of a reachstacker; deliveries began a year later – the type of equipment for which the name is now synonymous worldwide.
In 2005, Kalmar became part of the newly founded Cargotec. Since its spin-off from Cargotec, Kalmar has been an independent company: its shares have been traded on the Nasdaq Helsinki since 1 July 2024. The company is headquartered in Helsinki; in 2025, Kalmar generated a turnover of around 1.74 billion euros and employed approximately 5,300 people at the end of 2025. Manufacturing takes place in Poland, China, Malaysia and the USA, amongst other locations, whilst development centres are situated in Tampere and Ljungby, Sweden.

What the Kalmar model designation reveals
Kalmar model designations follow a pattern consisting of three letters and numbers. For forklift trucks, ‘D’ stands for diesel drive and ‘C’ for counterbalanced forklift; for reach stackers, the second character is ‘R’; for electric models, the name begins with ‘E’ (e.g. ECG or ERG). The third letter indicates the generation: the older DCD and DCE forklifts were followed by the DCF and the current G-generation; for reach stackers, the sequence is DRD, DRF and DRG. The first number indicates the load capacity in 100 kg – a DCG160 lifts 16 t, a DRG450 45 t. For forklift trucks, the hyphen is followed by the load centre of gravity in decimetres: A DCE 80-6 has a load capacity of 8 t at 600 mm, whilst a DCG160-12 has a load capacity of 16 t at 1,200 mm. Anyone comparing machines should therefore always look at both figures. Further suffixes describe the model variant, such as ‘E’ for the fuel-efficient Eco reach stackers.
| Model | Specifications | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| DRF450 / DRG450 | Reach stacker, 45 t in the first row | Full containers at the port, container depot, intermodal terminal |
| DRD420 / DRD450 | Older generation of reach stackers, 42–45 t | Yard and inland port with lower utilisation rates |
| DRF100 / DRG100 | Reach stackers for empty and partially loaded containers, 10 t | Empty container depot, workshop |
| DCG160-12 | 16 t at 1,200 mm load centre | Kalmar’s best-selling forklift: steel, concrete, timber |
| DCG100-6 / DCG120-6 | 10–12 t at 600 mm | Steel trade, mechanical engineering, precast concrete components |
| DCG250-12 / DCG330-12 | 25–33 t at 1,200 mm | Heavy-duty, coils, slabs, large components |
| DCE 80-6 / DCE 160-12 | Previous generation, 8–16 t | Affordable entry into the heavy-duty class |
| ECG160-12 | Electric forklift, 16 t at 1,200 mm | Warehouses and low-emission areas |
What we look for in a used Kalmar
Boom and spreader on reach stackers: check the slide plates and wear on the telescopic boom, the seals on the lift and telescopic cylinders, the slewing mechanism, twist locks and the spreader’s side shift. The load chart for the second and third rows must be suitable for the intended use.
Powertrain and axles: The engine (Volvo, Cummins or Perkins, depending on the year of manufacture), powershift transmission and drive axle are the most expensive components. Check gear-shifting behaviour under load, oil leaks, brakes and steering axle; request maintenance records and oil analyses.
Mast, fork carriage, centre of gravity: For heavy-duty forklifts, check the mast profiles, chains, forks and fork positioner. The combination of load capacity and centre of gravity is crucial – a 16-t forklift with a 600 mm centre of gravity carries loads over a shorter distance than one with a 1,200 mm centre of gravity.
Cab, electronics and documentation: The G-Generation EGO cab is adjustable and offers good visibility; check displays, sensors and load moment limiter for error messages. Compare the operating hours, year of manufacture from the type plate and the annual UVV inspection with the details in the advertisement.
Kalmar with us: Dealers and stock
Hinrichs Flurfördergeräte stocks almost our entire range of Kalmar equipment: reach stackers, heavy-duty diesel forklifts, electric Kalmar forklifts and container handlers. Zoch in Aidenbach supplements this with individual Kalmar units. You can find comparable machines under Hyster, SMV and Linde; the full stock is listed in the ‘Forklifts & Industrial Trucks’ category.
Frequently asked questions about Kalmar
What do DCG160-12 or DRF450 mean for Kalmar?
D stands for diesel, C for counterbalanced forklift, R for reachstacker, and the third letter indicates the generation. The first number denotes the load capacity in 100 kg; for forklifts, the number after the hyphen indicates the load centre of gravity in decimetres. A DCG160-12 therefore lifts 16 t at 1,200 mm, whilst a DRF450 is a reach stacker with a capacity of 45 t.
How do the DRD, DRF and DRG differ?
They are successive generations of Kalmar reach stackers. DRG is the current Gloria generation, DRF is the preceding series, which is particularly common on the second-hand market, and DRD is the older series before that.
Which Kalmar machines are most commonly traded second-hand?
For reach stackers, these are the DRF450 and the DRG450; for forklifts, the DCG160-12, followed by the DCG250-12, DCG120-6 and the older DCE series. Spare parts and servicing are correspondingly readily available.
Is Kalmar still part of Cargotec?
No. Kalmar was spun off from Cargotec in 2024 and has been listed as an independent company on the Nasdaq Helsinki since 1 July 2024. Its headquarters are in Helsinki.
Who invented the reachstacker?
Kalmar built the first prototype of a reachstacker in 1985 and began deliveries in 1986. Since then, the name has been closely associated with this type of equipment; reachstackers stack containers in several rows one behind the other.
Are Kalmar forklifts and reach stackers available in electric versions?
Yes. Kalmar offers electric forklifts ranging from 5 to 33 t (ECG series), electric empty container handlers and, with the ERG450, an electric reach stacker with a capacity of up to 45 t. Second-hand electric heavy-duty forklifts such as the ECG160-12 are already available.
How many operating hours are acceptable for a second-hand Kalmar?
Reach stackers and heavy-duty forklifts are built for multi-shift operation; provided there is evidence of proper maintenance, five-figure operating hour figures are common. More important than the figure itself are the condition of the boom, spreader, transmission and axles, as well as comprehensive service records.
Can I lease a Kalmar or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a no-obligation leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can clarify the terms and conditions with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are arranged directly between you and the seller.
