View on GoogleBuy new and used Hyster reach stackers, heavy-duty forklifts and forklift trucks – a wide selection direct from specialist dealers. For us, Hyster is synonymous with heavy-duty machinery: Reachstackers from the RS series, heavy-duty forklifts from the ‘Big Trucks’ XD and XM series, container handlers and diesel forklifts – every listing includes the year of manufacture, operating hours, load capacity, centre of gravity and lift height. The equipment is supplied by Hinrichs Flurfördergeräte and Bontebok Trading from the Netherlands; the stock is constantly changing.
Hyster at a glance
Hyster traces its origins back to the Willamette-Ersted Company, founded in Portland (Oregon) in 1929, which Charles F. Swigert established as a manufacturer of winches and hoists for the timber industry. The name comes from loggers’ slang: when a load was ready, the cry was “hoist ’er”. In 1936, the company was renamed the Willamette Hyster Company, and has been known as the Hyster Company since 1944. In 1952, Hyster opened its first factory outside the USA in Nijmegen, the Netherlands; since 2002, Nijmegen has been the global centre for the development and manufacture of Hyster Big Trucks – heavy-duty forklifts ranging from 8 to 48 t, empty container handlers and the RS46 reachstacker.
In 1989, NACCO Industries acquired Hyster and merged the brand with Yale; in 2012, the forklift business was spun off as an independent, publicly listed company. Today, Yale and Hyster are part of Hyster-Yale, Inc., headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2025, the group generated a turnover of around US$3.8 billion and, at the start of 2026, employed approximately 7,500 people, including its attachments subsidiary Bolzoni.

What the Hyster model designation reveals
Hyster includes the load capacity in tonnes directly in the model name. The first letter indicates the type: H for internal combustion engines with pneumatic tyres, S for internal combustion engines with solid rubber (cushion) tyres, J for electric counterbalanced forklifts, RS for reach stackers. This is followed by the load capacity and the series code, such as FT, UT or A for standard forklifts, and XM or the current XD series for Big Trucks. An H5.5FT is therefore an internal combustion forklift with a 5.5 t capacity. For the ‘Big Trucks’, the centre of gravity is given in decimetres at the end of the designation: the H16XD6 lifts its rated load at 600 mm, the H10XD12 at 1,200 mm. ‘EC’ denotes empty container forklifts, with the number following it indicating the stacking height (EC4 = 4 high, EC9 = 9 high); ‘CH’ denotes models designed for container handling.
| Model | Specifications | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| RS46-33 / RS46-36 / RS46-41 | Reach stacker, 46 t in the first row | Full containers, port, container depot, intermodal terminal |
| RS45 | Reach stacker, 45 t, predecessor | Yard and inland port |
| H16XD6 / H16XM-6 | 16.5 t at 600 mm | Steel, precast concrete, mechanical engineering |
| H12XD6 / H16XD12 | 12–16 t, 600 or 1,200 mm | long loads, timber, coils |
| H25–32XD | 25–32 t | Heavy-duty, large components, port handling |
| H8XD-EC6 to H11XD-ECD9 | Empty containers, 8–11 t, stacked 6 to 9 high | Empty container depot |
| H5.5FT | 5.5 t internal combustion engine | Hyster’s best-selling forklift: building materials, beverages, yard |
| H2.5FT / H3.5FT | 2.5–3.5 t internal combustion engine | Loading bays, warehouses, production |
What we look for in a used Hyster
Boom and spreader on the RS46: check the sliding parts and wear on the telescopic boom, as well as the seals on the lift and telescopic cylinders, the slewing mechanism and twist locks. The load chart for the second and third rows must be suitable for the intended application.
Big Trucks – drivetrain and axles: The engine, powershift transmission, drive axle and steering axle are the most expensive components. Check gear-shifting behaviour under load, brakes, oil leaks and maintenance records; request oil analyses if the machine has high hours.
Mast, forks and centre of gravity: Check the mast profiles, chains, fork tines, fork positioner and side shift. The centre of gravity, as indicated by the model designation (6 or 12), determines whether the forklift is suitable for long loads.
Generation and documentation: Whether XM or XD, FT or UT – compare the year of manufacture and serial number on the type plate with those in the advert, check the operating hours and maintenance log, and ensure proof of the annual UVV inspection is provided.
Hyster with us: Dealers and stock

Bontebok Trading adds a used Hyster diesel forklift from the Netherlands to the range. You can find comparable machines under Kalmar, SMV and the sister brand Yale; the full stock is listed in the Forklift Trucks & Industrial Trucks category.
Frequently asked questions about Hyster
What do H16XD6 or H5.5FT mean for Hyster?
‘H’ stands for an internal combustion engine, the number indicates the load capacity in tonnes, and ‘XD’ or ‘FT’ denotes the series. For Big Trucks, the final digit indicates the load centre of gravity in decimetres: an H16XD6 lifts its rated load at 600 mm, an H10XD12 at 1,200 mm.
What is the difference between XM and XD?
Both are Hyster Big Trucks. XM is the older generation, which is frequently available second-hand, whilst XD is the current series ranging from 8 to 48 tonnes. For spare parts, the year of manufacture and serial number on the type plate are required.
Where are Hyster Big Trucks built?
In Nijmegen, the Netherlands, the global centre for the development and manufacture of Hyster Big Trucks. This is where heavy-duty forklifts from 8 to 48 t, empty container handlers and the RS46 reachstacker are produced.
Which Hyster machines are most commonly traded second-hand?
Among standard forklifts, the H5.5FT leads the way, followed by the H2.5FT, H3.5FT and H5.0FT. In the heavy-duty sector, the RS46 reachstacker and the H16XD and H16XM-6 heavy-duty forklifts are among the most common models.
Are Hyster and Yale the same company?
Both are part of Hyster-Yale, Inc. in Cleveland (Ohio), but operate as separate brands with their own product ranges and dealer networks. Heavy-duty forklifts and reachstackers are primarily marketed under the Hyster name.
What does ‘EC’ stand for in Hyster container forklifts?
EC denotes empty container handlers; the number following it indicates the stacking height. An H8XD-EC6 stacks empty containers six high; for full containers, there are the CH models of the XM series and the reachstacker.
How many operating hours are acceptable for a second-hand Hyster?
Standard forklifts with a proven maintenance history are perfectly fine with 8,000 to 12,000 hours. Reachstackers and Big Trucks often operate in multi-shift mode; in such cases, the condition of the boom, transmission and axles, as well as comprehensive service records, are more important than the number of hours.
Can I lease a Hyster or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a no-obligation leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can clarify the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
