Buy new and second-hand vibratory plates, rammers and trench rollers – Bomag, Weber MT, Husqvarna, Wacker Neuson, Ammann – directly from specialist dealers. Without compaction, any sub-base will settle: paving, cable trenches, foundations, backfill and paths. We stock hand-guided soil compactors ranging from 60-kg forward-only plates to 800-kg reversible plates and trench rollers, mainly from Kraus Baumaschinen in Frankenthal (authorised Bomag and Weber dealers) and GSK Baumaschinen from Hanhofen – with operating weight, engine power and year of manufacture listed in the advert.
Which soil compactor is right for your job?
Walk-behind vibratory plates, 60–120 kg: Weber CF 1/CF 2, Bomag BP 10–20, Husqvarna LF 80. For paving, slab paths, asphalt repairs and small areas. With a rubber mat, also suitable for concrete paving without causing damage.
Reversible vibratory plates, 130–500 kg: Weber CR 1 to CR 8, Bomag BPR 25/50 to BPR 70/70, Husqvarna LG 400. Forward and reverse operation, 25–70 kN compaction force, compaction depth up to 60–80 cm in crushed stone and gravel. The class for civil engineering, sewer construction and backfilling. Diesel or petrol; electric start on the larger models.
Heavy reversible plates, 500–900 kg: Bomag BPR 100/80, Weber CR 9/CR 10, Ammann APH. Up to 100 kN, for base courses in road construction, large backfills, cohesive soils.
Vibratory rammers, 60–80 kg: Bomag BT 60/65, Weber SRV 300/590/620, Husqvarna LT 6005. For narrow trenches, pipework areas, foundation trenches, cohesive soils – wherever a plate compactor cannot be used. Petrol (2- or 4-stroke) or battery-powered.
Trench rollers and duplex rollers: Weber DVH 655, Husqvarna LP 6505, Bomag BW 65/BW 80 AD. Hand-guided rollers for trenches, asphalt repairs and road construction; the larger self-propelled rollers can be found under ‘Rollers’.
What we look for in a second-hand soil compactor
Exciter unit: The heart of the plate. Bearing noises, oil level and condition in the exciter, and whether it is leaking. A faulty exciter reduces the machine’s value significantly.
Base plate and rubber buffers: Worn or cracked base plate (particularly at the edges), cracked or hardened vibration dampers between the upper section and the plate – this causes the vibration to be transmitted to the engine and guide bracket.
Engine and clutch: Cold start (petrol: spark plug, carburettor; diesel: compression, glow plug), smoke pattern, centrifugal clutch and V-belt (slippage under load). Check the electric starter and battery on diesel plates.
Reversing and hydraulics: For reversing plates, check the forward-reverse changeover – it must switch cleanly and without delay; hydraulic lines must be leak-free.
Operating hours and documentation: Compressors often do not have an hour meter – the condition of the unit, buffers and exciter is what counts. CE marking, declaration of conformity, annual inspection by a qualified person.

Brands and dealers
Bomag (Boppard) and Weber MT (Bad Laasphe) are the German market leaders in walk-behind compaction technology; Wacker Neuson, Ammann and Husqvarna Construction round out the field. Our dealers: Kraus Baumaschinen in Frankenthal (authorised Bomag and Weber dealer, new machines and certified used equipment) and GSK Baumaschinen in Hanhofen (Husqvarna, Bomag). Filter by manufacturer, weight, engine power and condition.
Frequently asked questions about vibratory plates and rammers
Which vibratory plate do I need for paving?
For concrete paving and slabs, a forward-moving plate weighing 60–100 kg with a rubber mat (prevents chipping at the edges). For the sub-base layer underneath, use a reversible vibratory plate weighing 200 kg or more. Rule of thumb: the more cohesive the soil and the thicker the layer, the heavier the plate should be.
Vibratory plate or rammer?
A rammer is suitable for narrow trenches, pipe laying areas and cohesive, loamy soils – the impact energy penetrates deeply. A vibratory plate is suitable for large areas, crushed stone, gravel and sand. In sewer construction, you usually need both.
How much does a second-hand vibratory plate cost?
Small lead-in plates are available second-hand from low four-figure sums; reversible plates weighing 300–500 kg are in the mid-four-figure range; heavy diesel reversible plates and trench rollers are priced higher than that. Factors driving up the price include weight, compaction force, drive type (diesel/electric start) and the condition of the vibrator unit and the plate.
How deep does a vibratory plate compact?
Roughly speaking: 100 kg to about 20–25 cm, 200 kg to about 35–40 cm, 400–500 kg to 60–70 cm, 800 kg to 90 cm – in non-cohesive material. Cohesive soils require rammers or roller pads.
Petrol, diesel or battery?
Petrol is light and cheap (vibratory plates up to 200 kg, rammers). Diesel for heavy reversible plates and continuous use; more economical; electric start. Battery-powered rammers and vibratory plates are useful for trenches and indoor work without exhaust fumes, but are still rarely found second-hand.
Can I lease compaction equipment or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a non-binding leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
