Second-hand reach stackers from Kalmar, Hyster, Linde, CVS Ferrari, SMV and Liebherr – direct from the specialists. A reach stacker (container handler with a telescopic boom) stacks full containers up to the fifth layer, reaches into the second row and loads railway wagons – the ideal piece of equipment for terminals, inland ports, depots and industrial sites with rail connections. We offer used reach stackers ranging from 10 to 46 t from Hinrichs Flurfördergeräte in Oldenburg, one of Europe’s most experienced reach stacker dealers – with year of manufacture, operating hours, load capacity, lift height and engine power specified in the listing.
Which reach stacker is right for your handling requirements?
45-tonne full-container reach stackers: Kalmar DRF 450 / DRG 450, Hyster RS46, Linde C4531–C4540, CVS Ferrari F500, SMV SC 4527–4537. The standard at the terminal: 45 t in the front row, stacked 5 high, with 20- and 40-foot spreaders fitted with twist locks.
Intermodal reach stackers: Kalmar DRG 450 with ‘Intermodal’ spreader, Liebherr LRS 545, Linde C4535 TL5. Fitted with clamps for swap bodies and semi-trailers (piggyback) – for combined road/rail transport.
10-tonne empty container reach stackers: Kalmar DRF 100, SMV 108 TC6. Lighter, more cost-effective, stacks empty containers 6 to 8 high – for depots and repair workshops.
Compact 40–42 t class: Kalmar DRG 420, DC 4160, Linde C4234, Valmet RSD 4118, SMV SC 4127 – for inland ports and smaller terminals with limited space and budget.
What to look out for when buying a used reachstacker
Boom and telescopic cylinder: play in the plain bearings, condition of the sliding plates, cracks in the boom housing and bearing block, and leak-free telescopic and lift cylinders. The boom must hold its position under load without sagging – a demonstration with a container is essential.
Spreader: Twist locks, locking sensors, side shift and rotation mechanism, 20/40-foot telescoping. A spreader with a faulty locking indicator is a safety hazard. Check whether additional functions (piggyback, tilt, 45-foot) are available.
Engine, transmission, axles: 140 to 300 kW industrial diesel (Volvo, Cummins, Scania), powershift transmission (Dana, ZF), planetary axles with oil-immersed brakes. Oil and filter changes carried out according to schedule, fault memory read out, cold start and smoke emissions.
Frame, counterweight, tyres: cracks in the frame and on the boom mountings, condition of the front twin tyres (expensive), cab suspension, field of vision.
Operating hours: Reachstackers in terminals operate for 3,000 to 5,000 hours a year; 15,000 to 25,000 hours with documented maintenance are normal. We do not purchase reachstackers without a maintenance history – and we advise you to do the same.
Documentation and transport: Annual inspection in accordance with DGUV Regulation 68, CE marking, load capacity diagram. A reach stacker weighs between 60 and 110 tonnes – transport is carried out as heavy haulage with a permit, often in sections (boom, counterweight) or by inland waterway vessel.

Is a forklift with forks or a spreader sufficient for one or two layers? Then take a look at our heavy-duty forklifts. We explain how to make the decision in our guide: Reachstacker or container forklift?
Brands and dealers
Kalmar is the global market leader in reach stackers, followed by Hyster, Linde and SMV Konecranes; CVS Ferrari from Italy and Liebherr are strong niche suppliers. Frequently asked questions about used reach stackers
How much does a used reach stacker cost?
Prices range from older empty container handlers in the low six-figure range to newer 45-tonne machines with intermodal spreaders, which cost many times more even when second-hand. Factors affecting the price include year of manufacture, operating hours, spreader configuration and emission standard. Enquire via the advert with details of your handling requirements – the dealer will provide you with a specific quote.
What does ‘45 t in the first row’ mean?
The lifting capacity of a reach stacker depends on its reach. 45 t applies to a container directly in front of the machine; in the second row, the capacity is typically 27 to 31 t, and in the third row around 15 t. The load capacity diagram in the advert or on the machine itself shows the figures for your stacking pattern.
Reach stacker or heavy-duty forklift with a spreader?
One to two layers, a single row, lots of fork work: heavy-duty forklifts – more versatile and cheaper. Three to five layers, second row, rail loading, swap bodies: reach stackers. For empty containers in depots, the empty container reach stacker is the most economical solution.
How many operating hours are still acceptable for a reach stacker?
Reach stackers are designed for 30,000 hours or more. With a full maintenance record, 20,000 hours is no problem; without a maintenance history, even 8,000 hours is a risk. Check the boom, spreader and drivetrain, and ask for a demonstration with a container.
How is a reach stacker transported?
As a heavy-lift consignment on a flatbed lorry, usually with the boom and counterweight dismantled, or by inland waterway vessel or seagoing vessel. Our dealer organises dismantling, loading and shipping throughout Europe and overseas.
Which emission standard do I need?
In seaports and at large terminal operators, Stage IV/V or Tier 4 Final is increasingly required; for inland ports and factory premises, older Stage IIIA/IIIB machines are usually permitted and significantly cheaper. Check the requirements for your location before purchasing.
Can I lease a reachstacker or finance it via hire purchase?
For many listings, you can submit a non-binding leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are handled directly between you and the seller.
