What we look for in used tippers
Tipping hydraulics: telescopic cylinders must be leak-free and free of grooves; tipping under load must be smooth; check valves and hoses. For front-tipping lorries, also check the cylinder bearings and front wall.
Body and side panels: Dents, cracks and material thickness on the floor, hinges, locking mechanisms, swing-out side panels. Hardox or wear-resistant bodies last significantly longer than standard steel when dealing with stones and rubble.
Brakes and registration for the trailer: 25 or 40 km/h version; compressed-air or hydraulic brakes compatible with the tractor; ALB regulator. 40 km/h tippers must be registered and undergo a general inspection.
Truck chassis: check the frame for cracks beneath the tipper body; check the axles, springs and power take-off for the hydraulic pump; check the condition of the four-wheel drive and differential locks on 6x4 and 8x4 models. Mileage, service history and tachograph inspection are included.

Three-way tipper or tipper body?
The three-way tipper unloads at the rear and on both sides and is ideal for grain, sand and bulk materials on tight building sites. The dump truck has no side panels, can handle coarse stones and rubble, and unloads more quickly, but only tips at the rear.
What do 4x2, 6x4 and 8x4 mean?
The first number indicates the number of axles, the second the number of driven axles. A 4x2 is a two-axle vehicle with a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 18 t, a 6x4 is a three-axle vehicle with two drive axles and a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 26 t, and an 8x4 is a four-axle vehicle with a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 32 t for heavy earthworks.
What driving licence is required for a tipper lorry?
For a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 7.5 t, a Class C1 licence is sufficient; above that, a Class C licence is required, and for trailers over 750 kg, a CE licence is needed. For commercial goods transport, a professional driver’s qualification is also required.
