Saris

Buy new and used Saris trailers – a wide selection of construction machinery transporters, high-loaders and machinery trailers directly from specialist dealers. Saris, based in the Netherlands, manufactures car trailers with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3.5 tonnes: machinery transporters from the Magnum range, high-loaders, tippers, box and closed-body trailers, as well as tilting multi-transporters. You’ll find Saris trailers here mainly in the construction machinery trailers category – both new and used, with each listing detailing the model, gross vehicle weight, payload and specifications. Supplied by Kraus Baumaschinen in Frankenthal and GSK Baumaschinen in Hanhofen; the stock changes constantly. Some Saris trailers are also listed in the ‘Mini-excavators’ section, as they are offered there as a transport solution for excavators – but they are trailers, not excavators.

Saris at a glance

Behind the brand is SARIS Aanhangers B.V., based in Hapert in the Dutch province of North Brabant. Its roots date back to 1913, when the grandfather of the future directors Henny and Ferry Saris opened a smithy in Eindhoven; the trailer manufacturer was officially founded in 1959. Saris moved to Hapert as early as 1960; by 1965, it was producing around 1,000 trailers a year, and by 1985, around 10,000. Since 1989, robots have been welding the majority of the frames. In 1995, the 250,000th trailer rolled off the production line, and in 2008 the 500,000th was sold.

According to the manufacturer, Saris currently produces around 150 trailers per day on a site covering some 50,000 m², in accordance with ISO 9001 and with European type-approval. Saris offers a three-year warranty on new trailers. In December 2024, the company was acquired by Unitrailer Holding; the Saris brand continues to exist.

What the Saris model designation reveals

Saris includes the key dimensions directly in the model name: abbreviation + useful length in cm + useful width in cm + permissible gross weight in kg + number of axles. PL stands for the flatbed (Plateau), MG for the Magnum machine transporter, and TP for the tipper multi-transporter. A PL 356 186 2700 2 is therefore a flatbed trailer with a loading area of approximately 356 × 186 cm, a maximum permissible weight of 2,700 kg and two axles; a Magnum S 400/182/3500/3 is a machine transporter with a loading area of 400 × 182 cm, a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg and three axles. Commercial designations such as Magnum Maxx 350 or Magnum Explorer 3500 usually refer only to the weight class – the dimensions and number of axles are then specified in the advert and in the vehicle documents.

What we look for in a second-hand Saris

Payload and towing vehicle: The payload is crucial – maximum authorised mass minus kerb weight. A 3.5-t Magnum has a payload of just under 2.7 to 2.9 t, depending on the model. The machine, including buckets and quick-change coupler, must remain below this limit, and the towing vehicle’s towing capacity must match the maximum authorised mass.

Ramps and floor: Check access ramps for deformation and cracks, and inspect the ramp mountings and locking mechanisms. Inspect wooden floors for rot and loose screws; aluminium floors are more robust but should be checked for dents.

Brakes, axles, tyres: Check that the overrun brake, brake cables and wheel brakes are working properly; check wheel bearings for play. Inspect tyres for age (DOT number), load capacity and even wear – damage caused by standing is common on trailers that are rarely used.

Lashing points and documentation: Lashing points must be securely welded and undamaged. Ask to be provided with the registration certificate (Parts I and II), a valid general inspection certificate and, for newer trailers, the Certificate of Conformity (COC); check that the type plate matches the documentation.

Saris at our company: Dealers and stock

Kraus Baumaschinen in Frankenthal stocks new and used Saris machine transporters from the Magnum range, as well as used Saris high-loaders. GSK Baumaschinen in Hanhofen offers new Magnum Maxx and Magnum Explorer models with a 3.5 t gross vehicle weight – ideal for transporting mini-excavators. You can find comparable trailers under Stema and Blomenröhr, and suitable machines under Kubota and Yanmar, for example.

Frequently asked questions about Saris

Where do Saris trailers come from?

Saris is a Dutch trailer manufacturer based in Hapert, North Brabant, where its production facilities are also located. The company was founded in 1959 and has been part of Unitrailer Holding since December 2024.

What do the numbers in Saris model names mean, for example PL 356 186 2700 2?

The numbers indicate the useful length and width in centimetres, the permissible gross weight in kilograms and the number of axles. PL stands for high-loader, MG for the Magnum machine transporter, and TP for the tippable multi-transporter.

Which Saris model is suitable for a mini-excavator?

For this purpose, Saris manufactures the Magnum and Magnum S machine transporters with a gross vehicle weight of 2.7 to 3.5 t, a low floor and access ramps. For an excavator weighing around 2.5 t including the bucket, the 3.5-t class is usually the right choice.

What is the difference between the Magnum and the Magnum S?

The Magnum (MG) has 30 cm high steel side panels and two steel ramps. The Magnum S is the new generation with integrated professional ramps, a wooden or 18 mm aluminium floor, and nine variants up to a tridem configuration.

What are the Magnum Maxx and Magnum Explorer?

These are the names under which Saris machine transporters from the Magnum family are marketed; the number indicates the weight class, usually 3.5 t. Dimensions, number of axles and specifications are listed in the relevant advert.

What driving licence is required for a 3.5 t Saris?

That depends on the combination: a Category B licence permits only light combinations; for heavy machinery transporters, a Category BE licence is generally required. The details in the vehicle documents for the towing vehicle and trailer are decisive.

What warranty does Saris offer?

The manufacturer offers a three-year warranty on new Saris trailers. For second-hand trailers, the condition, documentation and the dealer’s warranty are the deciding factors.

Can I lease a Saris trailer or finance it via hire purchase?

For many listings – both new and used – you can submit a no-obligation leasing or hire-purchase enquiry directly. You can discuss the terms with the dealer or their finance partner; the purchase and payment are arranged directly between you and the seller.
